LOVE OF GOD
GOD OF LOVE
1. Because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them.
- Deut. 4:37
Yet they are Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your mighty power and by Your outstretched arm.
- Deuteronomy 9:29
For they are Your people and Your heritage which You brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace.
Let Your eyes be open to the supplication of Your servant, and of Your people Israel, to hearken to them in all that they call for to You.
For You separated them from among all the people of the earth to be Your heritage, as You declared through Moses your servant when You brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.
- 1 Kings 8:51-53
God has forgiven all who have sinned against Him, and all their transgressions against Him, and granted us compassion, pity and mercy. Solomon prayed and made supplication to the Lord in 1 Kings and blessed all the assembly of Israel. God has given us rest, according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all His good promise which He promised through Moses His servant. The Lord our God is with us as He was with our fathers; He will never leave us or forsake us; That He may incline our hearts to Him, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His precepts, which He commanded our fathers. May He maintain the cause and right of His servant and of His people Israel as each day requires, That all the earth's people may know that the Lord is God, there is no other. Let your heart therefore be blameless and wholly true with the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments.
2. The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the Lord loved you, And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee.
- Deut. 7:7, 8, 13
For you are a holy and set apart people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a special people to Himself, out of all the peoples on the face of the earth. Know, recognize and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations; And repays those who hate Him to their face, by destroying them; He will not be slack to him who hates Him, but will requite him to His face. And if you hearken to these precepts and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love which He swore to your fathers; You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
3. The Lord had a delight in thy fathers love to them, and he chose their seed after them, 18. He doth execute the judgement of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
- Deut. 10:15, 18
Behold, the heavens and the Heaven of heavens belong to the Lord your God, the earth also, with all that is in it and on it; So circumcise the foreskim of your [mind and] heart; be no longer stubborn and hardened. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, the terrible God, Who is not partial and takes no bribe. Therefore love the stranger and sojourner, for you were strangers and sojorners in the land of Egypt. Jesus delights in loving us and chose us above all people. The Father loves the temporary resident and gives him food and clothing. Reverently fear the Lord your God, serve Him and cling to Him. He is your praise; He is your God, Who has done for you these great things! He loves you so much that He sent Jesus to die in your stead. The Holy Spirit has come to dwell in our hearts to fill us with the Love of God, so that we can love God and each other in Truth.
4. The Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the Lord thy God loved thee.
- Deut. 23:5
Balaam son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia was hired to curse the Nation of Israel, but God turned it around for good and blessed them with peace and prosperity all their days for ever. The Word of God tells us, "Cursed is anyone who hangs on a tree." Jesus went to the cross on our behalf, so that we could be blessed of God, receive His Peace and our souls would prosper. He is our Redeemer! He bought back all who were lost to have fellowship with the Father. All Good things come down from God out of Heaven. His Love is Everlasting!
5. Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.
The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.
- Deut. 33:3, 12
FOOTNOTE:
The temple in Jerusalem was located almost between the ridges of the territory of Benjamin, suggesting "between his shoulders" (cp. Josh. 15:8). Moses sees it as a symbol of the Lord's presence covering Benjamin continually.
Jesus loves [the tribes] His people; all those consecrated to Him are in His hand. Follow in His footsteps, accept His Word as Truth and receive direction from Him. God has blessed us with the precious gifts of Heaven. We bear the Fruit of the Spirit, because the Son of God has shined His Light of Grace and good will upon us. Moses wanted the blessings of God to come upon the head of Joseph, upon the crown of the head of him who was separate and prince among his brothers. He knew this was the same God Who dwelt in the bush. [Exod. 3:4.] Jesus had a crown of thorns when He went to the Cross on our behalf. He was sanctified as the Lamb of God to be slaughtered for our sins. As prince among His brothers He lived and died, but now that He rose again from the grave, He is the Prince of Peace and King of kings! Jesus makes His dwelling between our shoulders by the Holy Spirit of God coming to live in our hearts. There is no greater Love!
6. He called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him. [Neh. 13:26.]
- 2 Sam. 12:24
Previous to this Scripture we read of David and Bathsheba losing their first child which was conceived in sin. David said, "I shall go to him, but he will not return to me." David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went to her, and lay with her; and she bore a son, and she called his name Solomon. And the Lord loved [the child]; He sent [a message] by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and [Nathan] called the boy's [special] name Jedidiah [beloved of the Lord], because the Lord [loved the child]. Most people overlook the fact that Solomon was named Jedidiah by God. Three times in two verses the Word of God speaks of the Love that God had for this child. It says He loved the child, he was beloved of the Lord and again the Lord loved the child. When God repeats Himself you know He means what He says. If you are a born again believer in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour then you also are a child of God and He is no respecter of persons. That means that He loves you just as much as He loved Solomon and even as much as He loves His Only Begotten Son, Jesus. When God looks at you (and He always does) He sees you through the eyes of love. We in turn should love Him back. He should be our beloved!
7. What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?
- Job 7:17
Job is in between loathing his life and asking God why He visits man every morning and tries him every moment. We all have those days from time to time and some of us would say we even have that life. Job knew he would not live forever (at least in this life) and he just wanted to be left alone, because he knew his days were a breath [futility]. What is man, that God should think him important? And that He should set His mind upon us? [Ps. 8:4.] We are His workmanship created for good works in Christ. The Father sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus into this world to redeem us from sin and death, so that we could be reconciled to Him. He longs to have communion and fellowship with us in the unity of the Holy Spirit. God made earthborn man a little lower than Him [or heavenly beings], and crowned us with glory and honor. He made us to have dominion over the works of His hands; He put all things under our feet. [1 Cor. 15:27; Eph. 1:22, 23; Heb. 2:6-8.] View and consider God's heavens, the work of His fingers, the moon and the stars which He ordained and established; What is man, that You care for him? O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your name in all the earth!
8. The Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me,
- Psa. 42:8
[Roaring] deep calls to [roaring] deep at the thunder of Your water-spouts; all Your breakers and Your rolling waves have gone over me. Psalm 42:8 is a prayer to the God of my life to the Chief Musician. A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem of the sons of Korah. We begin the Second Book of Psalms with God's loving-kindness in the daytime and His song in the night. Jesus has us covered 24/7 and we are washed by the Water and the Word. Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him; for I shall yet praise Him Who is the help of my countenance, and my God. His loving-kindness is better than life!
9. He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved.
- Psa. 47:4
He subdues peoples under us and nations under our feet. He chose our inheritance for us, the glory and pride of Jacob whom He loves. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! [1 Pet. 1:4, 5.] God has ascended amid shouting, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. Psalm 47 was written to the Chief Musician and is a Psalm of the sons of Korah. I'm sure if you had to pick your own inheritance it would be a good one. Our God is able to do above and beyond all that we could ever ask or think! The excellency, glory and pride of Jacob is ours in Jesus. He loves us!

10. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
- Psa.63:3
Psalm 63 is a Psalm of David, written when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. He looked upon God in the sanctuary, to see His power and glory. David blessed Him while he lived and lifted up his hands in His name. We love God, because He first loved us. Speak forth His praises! Lift up Holy hands to Him and bless the Name of Jesus! Even in the wilderness, God is there. Seek His face and behold the beauty of the Lord. Read His Word and understand His Power to Protect you. May His glory rest upon you and may His lovingkindness fill your heart with God's Love.
11. The Lord . . . Chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
- Psa. 78:65, 68, vs. 61, 62
The Tribe of Judah was chosen as Israel's leader. Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and the Chosen One of God to lead His People to Victory in His Name! Mount Zion replaced Shiloh as God's capitol. Jesus went to heaven to prepare a place for us and when He comes again He will rule and reign from the New Jerusalem! We are chosen of God, bought and paid for by the Blood of the Lamb, because He loves us!
12. My lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
- Psa. 89:33
God punishes the transgressor with the rod [of chastisement], and their iniquity with stripes. [2 Sam. 7:14.] He will not break or profane His covenant, nor alter the things that have gone out of His lips. Nevertheless His loving-kindness He will not break off from us, nor allow His faithfulness to fail [to lie and be false to us]. God is Faithful, Jesus Never Fails and the Holy Spirit fills us with His Love!
13. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
- Psa. 103:13
This verse in [A Psalm] of David is found between two great passages of Scripture. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. For He knows our frame; He [earnestly] remembers and imprints [on His heart] that we are dust. God loves us so much and we in turn should bless Him according to His Word. BLESS - affectionately, gratefully praise - the Lord, O my soul, and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! Bless - affectionately, gratefully praise - the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits, Bless - affectionately, gratefully praise - the Lord, you His angels, you mighty ones who do His commandments, hearkening to the voice of His word. Bless - affectionately, gratefully praise - the Lord, all you His hosts, you ministers of His who do His pleasure. Bless the Lord, all His works in all places of His dominion; bless - affectionately, gratefully praise - the Lord, O my soul!
14. The Lord loveth the righteous:
- Psa. 146:8
Happy - blessed, fortunate [enviable] - is he who has the God of [special revelation to] Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God; [Gen. 32:30.] Who made Heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, Who keeps truth and is faithful forever; Who executes justice for the oppressed; Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets free the prisoners; The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the [uncompromisingly] righteous - those upright in heart and in right standing with Him. [John 9:7, 32; Luke 13:13.] The Lord protects and preserves the strangers and temporary residents; He upholds the fatherless and the widow and sets them upright; but the way of the wicked He makes crooked - turns upside down and brings to ruin. We are righteous because of our Faith in Jesus. He is our righteousness! God loves us and He is Faithful Forever!
15. He loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
- Prov. 15:9
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomintion, hateful and exceedingly offensive to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight! [Isa. 1:11; Jer. 6:20; Amos 5:22.] The way of the wicked is an abomination, extremely disgusting and shamefully vile to the Lord, but He loves him who pursues righteousness [spiritual and moral rectitude in every area and relation]. There is severe discipline for him who forsakes God's way, and he who hates reproof will die [physically, morally and spiritually]. He calls us to offer up ourselves a living sacrifice and takes delight in our prayers towards Him. We must pursue the righteousness that is found in Christ Jesus which is spiritual and moral rectitude in every area and relation. He is the Way and those who forsake Him, like Adam, will die physically, morally and spiritually. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you, because He loves you and desires to live in communion and fellowship with you forever.
16. Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corrupton: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
- Isa. 38:17
O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these is the life of my spirit. O give me back my health and make me live! For Sheol [the place of the dead] cannot confess and reach out the hand to You, death cannot praise and rejoice in You; they that go down to the pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness [to Your promises; their probation is at an end, their destiny is sealed]. God loves our soul! He cast our sins into the sea of forgetfulness behind His back and will bring them up to us no more. Believe in, cling to, trust in and rely on God's Faithfulness [to His promises] and you are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the Day of Redemption! After death you cannot confess, reach out your hand, praise and rejoice in Him. You cannot hope, your probation is at an end and your destiny will be sealed. Choose Life Eternal and you shall have the "Peace of God That Passes All Understanding"!
17. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee; therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
- Isa. 43:4
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt [to the Babylonians] for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba [a province of Ethiopia] in exchange for your release. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east [where they are dispersed], and gather you from the west; [Acts 18:10.] I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Keep not back; bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth, Even every one who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, whom I have made. Jesus created us, formed us, made us and redeemed us. He is the ransom that set us free and calls us by name, because we are His. Although we may pass through the waters, rivers and fire we shall not be burned or scorched, nor shall the flame kindle upon us. Because we are precious in His sight, and honored, and He loves us!
18. Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
- Jer. 31:3
Thus says the Lord: The people who survived the sword found favor in the wilderness [place of exile], when Israel sought to find rest. The Lord appeared of old to me [Israel], saying, Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn you and have continued My faithfulness to you. [Deut. 7:8.] Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel! You shall again be adorned with your timbrels [small one-headed drums], and go forth in the dancing [chorus] of those who make merry. At that time says the Lord, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people. Jesus came to earth to show the world the Love of the Father. All God's promises are Yes, in Him! God's Love is everlasting; with His loving-kindness (which is better than life) He has drawn us into communion and fellowship with Him. His Faithfulness reaches higher than the highest heavens and far above the clouds. Go forth with Joy and do the Dance of the Merry Makers!
19. When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
- Hos. 11:1
And having risen, he took the Child and His mother by night and withdrew to Egypt, And remained there until Herod's death. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, Out of Egypt have I called My Son. [Hos. 11:1.] Jacob was taken out of Egypt, Jesus was taken out of Egypt and we were taken out of Egypt. Why? Because, God Loves us! Egypt is a life of sin and bondage, but through the Love of God and the Blood of Jesus we are set free by the Power of the Holy Spirit!
20. I have loved you, saith the Lord.
- Mal. 1:2
THE burden or oracle or the thing to be lifted up of the word of the Lord to Isreal by Malachi - My messenger. I have loved you, says the Lord. Yet you say, In what and how have You loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the Lord; yet I loved Jacob (Israel), But [in comparison with the degree of love I have for Jacob] I have hated Esau [Edom], and have laid waste his mountains, and his heritage I have given to the jackals of the wilderness. [Rom. 9:13, 16.] God showed His Love towards us by sending His Only Begotten Son, Jesus to die on the Cross in our stead! He gave His Life! What more could He do? God's Word is True and He CANNOT lie! "I have Loved you", says the Lord.
21. God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
- John 3:16
This is probably the most quoted Scripture in the world. One might have thought to see this as the first listing in our series. Certainly when studying the "Love of God" we can't leave out the great Love chapter of 1 Corinthians 13. For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge - to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on - the world; but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. He even gave up His unique Son, so that whoever trusts, clings to, relies on Him shall not come to destruction, be lost - but have eternal life.
22. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
- John 5:20
So Jesus answered them by saying, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the Son is able to do nothing from Himself - of His own accord; but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way [in His turn]. Just as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life - makes them live on - so the Son also gives life to whomever He wills and is pleased to give it. Apart from Jesus we can do nothing. He is the vine and we are the branch. We are to rely on the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all Truth and to be imitaters of Jesus. Because He loves us, He will show us everything in His time. God has called us to do greater things, so that we may marvel and be full of wonder and astonishment. Jesus says, "Go and do likewise!" "By My Spirit," says the Lord.
23. He that loveth me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. If any man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
- John 14:21, 23
Judas, not Iscariot, asked Him, Lord, how is it that You will reveal Yourself - make Yourself real - to us and not to the world? Any one who does not really love Me does not observe and obey My teaching. And the teaching which you hear and heed is not Mine, but [comes] from the Father who sent Me. We have the entire Word of God, but do we keep His commands? Put your trust in God! Love Him and you will be loved by the Father. Jesus loves you and wants to show Himself to you - He will let Himself be clearly seen by you and make Himself real to you. Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus!
24. The Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
- John 16:27
At that time you will ask (pray) in My name, and I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf [for it will be unnecessary]. I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father. God loves you with an Everlasting Love, because you have put your Faith in His One and Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, Messiah, The Anointed One. He is the very heart of God and the essence of His Total Being! We are to be the essence of Christ where ever we go and to bring Life in His Name. Paul the Apostle said, "The Greatest is Love!" God the Father tenderly Loves you. Love one another!
25. All mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. That the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. That the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
- John 17:10, 23, 26
I am praying for them. I am not praying (requesting) for the world; but for those You have given Me, for they belong to You. And [now] I am no more in the world, but these are in the world and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep in Your name [in the knowledge of Yourself] them whom You have given Me, that they may be one, as We [are one]. I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one, [even] as We are one: Father, I desire that they also whom You have entrusted to me [Your gift to Me,] may be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory, which You have given Me - Your love gift to Me - for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O just and righteous Father, although the world has not known You and has failed to recognize You and has never acknowledged You, I have known You continually. And these men understand and know that You have sent Me. HAVING said these things, Jesus went out with His disciples beyond (across) the winter torrent of the Kidron (in the Ravine of the Cedars). There was a garden there, which He and His desciples entered. Have you entered into this garden yet in your Christian experience? This seventeenth chapter of John is truly the "Lord's Prayer" for His disciples. Prayerfully read and study this chapter then go make disciples of all men. Jesus revealed God the Father's character, that the love which He bestowed upon Him may be in all true believers - felt in their hearts - and that He [Himself] may be in us. There's no greater love!
26. I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God and your God.
- John 20:17
Jesus said to her, Mary! Turning around she said to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni! which means Teacher or Master. Away came Mary Magdalene, bringing the disciples news (word) that she had seen the Lord and that He had said these things to her. Has Jesus spoken to you lately through His Word by the Holy Spirit of God? Have you repented of your sins and now call Him Lord and Savior? He has commanded us to go and make discipes of all men, women and children by sharing the Good News in His Word with them. Have you seen the Lord? Jesus said to her, Do not cling to Me [do not hold Me] for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to My brethren and tell them, God is your Father and your God!
27. Beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
- Rom. 1:7
And this includes yourselves, called of Jesus Christ and invited [as you are] to belong to Him. First, I thank God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because [the report of] your faith is made known to all the world and is commended everywhere. You are the Beloved of God! You are called to be a saint! You have been given Grace and peace from God our Father! All believers have been designated for a consecrated life: spiritual blessings are to be yours from the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the Good News from God that Paul, a special messenger of the Messiah preached to those in Rome. He was yearning to see them, that he might impart and share with them some spiritual gift to strengthen and establish them; That is that we may be mutually strengthened and encouraged and comforted by each other's faith, both yours and mine. Let us all walk this Roman road together!
28. God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- Rom.5:8
Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die. Therefore, since we are now justified - acquitted, made righteous and brought into right relationship with God - by Christ's blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God. But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One, died for us. Just the facts!

GOD OF LOVE
- Deut. 33:3, 12
